Hi Nicole,
I'm not a vet, but lost a little one recently so I can speak from my experience. I'm sorry for
what your going thru with Key Largo.
How long has he been sick? our little cho was sick for about 6 weeks, started off with
seedy loose stool and extremely lethargic. He would eat and drink but lost a lot of weight
over the 6 weeks.
Within 2 weeks his blood levels went from the normal range (showed dehydration and
other signs of what we thought could have been a bacterial infection) to very anemic and
other levels that didn't really say anything conclusive. We tried various antibiotics,
prednisone, epogen shots to boost his red blood cells that went from normal to very
anemic in 2 weeks, plus sub q fluids.
Our vet was very surprised at how bad Cho got in those 2 weeks. He was no longer a
canidate for exploritory surgery because of the anemia.
Is your Key Largo bloated? Cho started with a slight bloat that got worse over time. Cho
stopped being interested in ferretone (the only thing that would wake him from his
weakened state) and didn't have a bowel movement for 12 hours (extreme intestinal
bloating) we helped him cross the bridge. He was 8 months old.
juvenile lymphoma was what our vet felt he had. We did not have any test done after he
passed so it hasn't been confirmed.
I recommend, if you have the $$ for it, do a biopsy to rule out juvenile lymphoma. there is
no cure for it and so sad to see your little one suffer.
good luck! I will be praying it isn't juvenile lymphoma.
Wendy
