Hi Emily~

I know that humidity levels are really important and even more so when a person or animal has an upper respiratory infection. We were told by people who cared for sugar gliders within a zoological setting that it is really important to make sure the humidity isn't too low in the winter time with all the heating that goes on inside a house and to make sure the room is not too hot. We were also told the same thing by our pediatrician for our youngest who said more pneumonia as secondary infection to URI was caused from sleeping quarters of the child being too warm and lack of humidity. We were told by both to keep the room (preferably the house) where they spent the most time and where our child slept at a humidity level around 50-55%...a lot of NICU's keep the humidity at 55%...this is low enough to discourage mold and mildew from forming, but high enough so that there is healthy, moist air to avoid respiratory irritation of the trachea and bronchial network.

If you have a ferret-knowledgeable vet, perhaps you can ask them about a decongestant. Some vets prescribe about .2 (that's point 2) ml of children's alcohol-free Benedryl, but please confirm this with a vet.

I hope others (vets?) here have some advice to offer as it's been a while since I had ferrets in the family...

bothers her so badly that she can't rest well.

Is there anything I can do to help her stuffy nose while we're
treating the infection?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. :o)
