Subject: [ferrethealth] Pimobendane
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I've been using pimobendan in conjunction with enalapril and furosemide since January 2007 with an elderly ferret with good results. It seems to be helping with heart function and Blossom is no longer wheezing (she was diagnosed with dilated cardio in December 2006). Probably the only negative is that the shelf life seems to be similar to antibiotics - once mixed, it is only good for about 2 weeks. I mix 3 capsules with diluent and she gets 0.15cc twice daily and it is kept refrigerated once constituted.

I'm writing to ask if any of the vets on the list or any other person has ever
used Pimobendane for a ferret with cardiomyopathy in conjunction with
Furosemide and Enalapril? My vet mentioned it today but said that as far as he
knew it had never been studied in ferrets although he has used it for dogs and
cats with good results. Any info that I can take to him would be good.
Thanks
