Hi Sukie~

Wow! This means I need to do my homework, too. :o) I had ferrets from February 1987 to July 1996 and began one of the first rescues (that I was aware of) in our area of the Dallas metroplex. I had to pretty much run things by the seat of my pants as information was difficult to come by other than anecdotal and from vets who were also winging it the best they could. When we moved to a remote location I transferred the rescue to a wonderful volunteer and I believe this evolved into networking and then being run by the Ferret Lover's Club of Texas. Since then, I have been away from the ferret world and just now emotionally prepared to step back in again and finding there's so much information out there now, it can actually be overwhelming. I have always admired Dr. Hines for the timely articles he has had and he has a LOT of them on his site.

I hope I didn't misdirect anyone with the information I sent to the list concerning rabies as this was the protocol we followed pre-1997. Thank you for pointing out that you see several errors and possibly more. Can you please tell me what your best source is for the correct information? Concerning the rabies, I have saved the information you sent on the Compendium from: http://www.nasphv.org/

I have yet to welcome another ferret into my home - I would love to right away, but will not until I know I have more information about the proper ways to care for ferrets which back when I had ferrets and the rescue many things were done differently. Back then, for a long time, I couldn't even find a ferret food and ended up feeding Wysong Feline and used Wysong PDG and made my own recipe of "ferret soup" for those convalescing ferrets in the rescue.

I am so glad this group/list is here so we can learn from each other...Now I have a question about food which I will post separately...

Do please let me know where you find your sources other than http://www.nasphv.org/ for information on the errors in Dr. Hines' site article.

Thank you!

Linda

I want to thank you so very much for drawing attention to this tech website. For some
reason I had not realized before how many errors are there in the rabies section. <snip>
