Subject: [ferrethealth] Difficulty going to toilet
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi

My jill is 5.5 yrs and has adrenal disease. Her left adrenal was
removed in Dec 05 which resulted in hair regrowth. Her fur has been
very thin again since summer 06. Through surgery, a large mass was
found in her abdomen (mainly attached to intestine??) in Aug 06 and
was diagnosed as lymphosarcoma (although no biopsy was undertaken).
Due to the size of the tumour, she was closed up without any further
action and has been on 1mg prednisone per day since then. This has
shrunk the tumour and it has not been felt since.

In the last few days she has been having difficulty defecating and
has been straining, resulting in a small amount of blood around her
anus. Since yesterday she has been squatting very regularly but not
producing anything. I have been checking, and she is still urinating
and defecating, although the poos are not their normal shape due to
her straining to poo. She is still eating and drinking.

She is booked to see the vet tomorrow, but I would appreciate your
thoughts. Do you think this is due to the tumour growing again and
restricting her insides, or should I be concerned with an intestinal
blockage? Is there anything that can be done now, or is her time
near?

Any help appreciated.
Liz
