Subject: [ferrethealth] Can't figure out whats wrong with my ferret
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a male ferret, Franklin, 4 years old. For the last 6 months he
has been lethargic. Sometimes he makes a hacking sound and also,
sometimes when he is drinking water he makes a hacking sound and paws
at his mouth. I have been to the vet over 5 times in the last 6
months trying to figure out whats wrong with him. This is a very good
vet.

Here is some background:
Sept 2004 (2 years old)- Had malignant Round cell tumor removed
January 2006 (3 years old)- left adrenalectomy

Abnormal Lab results from this past december:
Alk Phosphates Result: 9 Range: 14-144
Total protein Result: 6.9 Range: 4.3-6.0
Globulin Result: 3.1 Range: .2 - 2.4
Glucose Result: 92 Range: 120-144
WBC Result: 7.6 Range: 3.5-7.0
HCT Result: 41.7 Range: 43-55%
Neutrophil SEG Result: 58 Range: 31-57%

He has had this bloodwork, glucose tests, and x-rays taken.

We have tried: carafate, amoxi, Pepcid A/C, Prednisone

Currently he is on Prednisone .1 cc 2 times a day. Since he started
Prednisone a month ago he has lost a lot of weight .5 pounds and his
Glucose was 60 the last time the vet checked! It got worse! I have
not noticed much of an improvement with his energy level either.

Does anyone have any advice as to where to go from here?
