Interesting. Do you know what state they live in?? Which health forum is this -- Doesn't sound like the Original FHL.
[Moderator's Note: The above is a rather cryptic note that
arrived but I am going to allow it because it will let me tell
a bit about the FHL.
Yes, this IS the ORIGINAL FHL; we've just moved for the
second time. (Another reason why we keep the Archives in
a separate location.)
Our founder was Christopher Bennett who wanted to found
the FHL when he was terminally ill to leave behind a legacy
which would help ferrets. I introduced Christopher to Dr.
Bruce Williams because Christopher was the one potential
health list host who was happy to have a list that was
designed with rules that would be friendly to vets (and most
of the FHL rules are vet written).
Dr. Williams wanted to have at least one other moderator
who could handle the more standard, repetitive questions so
he said that I had to also be a moderator. (That shook me up
and I wondered for a while if I had bitten off more than i could
chew.) My condition was that we have another one, too. At the
top of the lists of candidates of both Dr. Williams and I was Mike
Janke so we were overjoyed when Mike said, "Yes.".
So, there we first 4 were, and was I ever nervous...
The first home of the FHL was on Yahoogroups at an address
that another health list took over a year after we moved. (The
reason that address is in my old list of resources is because
Geocity won't and never has allowed any changes to be made to
that list.)
Pam Sessoms soon became our list librarian and then another of
us moderators, and later Troy Lynn Eckart also joined us. Recently
Patty Kacorowski also became a moderator.
Most of us moderators are and have been on the east coast of the
U.S. but that is by chance since many of us don't know each other
face to face despite working together on a daily basis for years,
ranging from NJ south into to Florida, but TLE is in Kansas, and
contributing vets and vet techs, past and present, primarily range
or have ranged across at least parts of 4 continents with another
at least 2 in the past also from Asia. Some vets are very public
with their help, while a larger number reply to people off-list.
In February we hit our 6th anniversary, and some of the vets have
been with us that entire time. For example, Dr. Ruth Heller's first
post was in late February of our first year, and Dr. Jerry Miller's
anniversary was just days ago.
Anyway, thanks for the cryptic message that allowed people to learn
a bit about the FHL itself.
