My ferret Ronan, diagnosed with IBD, has occasional bouts of vomiting much like you describe. It tends to happen when his stool is at its worst (yellow and runny). My experience suggests to me that maybe you are seeing the same thing, with a milder case. I am not a vet.
(I have noticed that even on pred, he tends to cycle about every month or so with a bad patch of 2-4 days, and then fine for a few more weeks, then cycling again. At first I was rushing to get him on antibiotics every time this happened, but now I think since he seems to fight it off on his own, it's better to use less antibiotics. My vet concurs. He eats well and is energetic throughout all this.)
