Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Occasional Vomit - need advice dearly...I don't have a ferret savy vet
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Well gas patterns don't always occur and in most ferrets even with
full obstruction it was late in the course. Fur balls are usu
partial obstructions so you wouldn't get the same pattern. It is a
possibility. Another note all ferrets I have seen with a gastric
furball have also ended up developing a gastric ulcer. So watch for
this too.

Z/D is one choice for IBD. My problem is I hate preservatives and my
last look at it showed Ethoxyquin is in the diet. THere is a
comparable diet (prescription diet) by Royal Canin for cats. This
diet uses more natural things and uses natural preservative such as
rosemary. I prefer the Royal Canin Line to Hills.

Many ferrets with partial obstructions do fine. I usu see them for
weight loss, teeth grinding, appetite problems but know that it is
pretty far along when this happens. You could also potentially try
ultrasound but I still have found things missed by someone not
trained in ferrets.

Hope all works out for you.

Dr. Sue
