Subject: [ferrethealth] adrenal ferret mating
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>
Hi,
I promised a friend to ask her question here on the list about her adrenal ferret mating.
Her ferret is a 3 year old male, neutered at about the age of 1.5. Until that he was completely sterile therefore quite a few jills were taken to him to help them come out of heat.
She also has a jill bought for breeading who came into season and since the male has shown no signs of sexual behaviour, he and the jill were kept together. To the owners suprise, the male completed a full mating with her resulting in the jill's pseudo pregnancy. (Hormone test are in process, so the male is not treated yet.)
Since it's quite a rare situation that we haven't heard from other owners here, I thought someone on the list might have heard about similar cases. I don't believe what happened is unexplainable, but knowing similar has happened to others' ferrets, too, would comfort the owner... We know ferrets with sexual behaviour caused by adrenal problems here, of course, but they normally do not have the chance to mate with a jill in heat, so we do not have the chance to hear about such, either.
It would be appreciated if someone who has experienced or heard about similar situations, would let me know...
Thanks a lot for any help...
Nelli
