***Please bear in mind that I am not a veterinarian, this is just
something that worked for us. Please discuss any treatment protocol
with a ferret-knowlegable vet before proceeding!***
A few years ago, my ferret, Twizzler, was diagnosed (through biopsy)
with intermediate-grade Lymphoma. In consultation with her vet, we
opted not to do chemo, mainly because of the poor prognosis and
potential side effects.
Instead, we chose to use a combination of high-dose pred and Essiac.
She was put on Prednisolone elixir 3mg/ml, 0.6 ml twice daily (she was
around two pounds, and this was the top dose for her weight. Because
of the aggressive nature of Lymphoma, her vet opted to go high on her
dose.) In addition to the pred, she was on 2.5 ml of Flor-Essence
diluted 50% with water (similar to Essiac, but without alcohol) twice
daily, given on an empty stomach.
Using this protocol, we actually managed to get almost 20 more months
with her. She slowed down quite a bit, and we eventually had to start
supplementing her with a jar of chicken baby food twice a day, but she
still had that look in her eye right to the end.
Please bear in mind that I am in the minority here. Lymphoma is an
aggressive disease, and not every ferret responds this well. But if
you look up Essiac in the archives, you will see other success stories,
so don't give up hope!
***Once again, I am not a veterinarian. Please work with an
experienced ferret veterinarian to devise a treatment protocol for your
situation!!***
Good luck,
Becky (with Tanner, Satinka, Jasper, and Dervish)
(Missing Cinnamon, Coke, Pixie, Chitterbox, Kodi-Bear, Twizzler, and
Yozum)
