Subject: [ferrethealth] demodicosis in a ferret
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi group.
Anyone had experiences with demodicosis in a ferret? Browsing the
internet and in litearture I only found one case from Noli C,van der
Horst HH,Willemse T.(Vet Q. 1996 Mar).
I found demodex sp. in an ear swap and pulled haires from the dorsal
side of the neck of my personal ferrets - I was actually looking for
otodectes cynotis and was really surprised with the finding. She is
5,5 yrs old castrated female with insulinoma. She has been treated for
insulinoma with prednisolone for two years now ... (not a surgery
candidate)
I was wondering if anyone had a similar case and what therapy did you
use. Since the affected area is not a most common one at demodicosis,
we are not quite sure about the treatment with amitraz ... The
efficiency of use of ivermectin I was said is questionable.
I allready posted the same question on exotic dvm group, so some of
you might read it two times.
Anykind of info would be appretiated.
maja
