Subject: [ferrethealth] asymptomatic malaise in this ferret: suggestions?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
This is Susie Lee for The Ferret And Dove Sanctuary, Inc., currently
home for 59 ferrets.
One of these, a 2 year old chocolate male named Geordie Kirk,
has had to be separated from his troupe (Spock, McCoy, Scottie are
still boisterously active and burstingly healthy) for a mysterious
malaise. He's had a complete blood values worked up as well as
stools and urine samples checked with only normal, healthy ferret-
values returned for each check, X-ray showed no inner problems such
as an enlarged heart, our veterinarian is stumped as to why this
young, apparently healthy ferret (not overweight, nor underweight)
does not want to move.
We are very open for suggestions as to why might this ferret be
unwilling to get up and play any more. He does stand and move around
in the single-ferret-cage we've moved him to, but the last three
days has gotten himself so "down in the dumps" that I've been bottle-
feeding him along with my extremely elderly ferrets every four hours.
Can it be that we've got a case of individual mental depression?
This one had not lost any cage-mates but just decided one day last
week to lay down and stop everything, two of his original cage mates
tried to "buck him up", Deanna McCoy gave him several all-over flea-
ings and lickings, and Work Spock curled up around Geordie Kirk in
supportiveness, but Geordie didn't budge for either of his original
best friends.
Our phone number at the shelter is 850-475-0780, if you have an idea
to field us about Geordie Kirk Ferret, please call and leave a clear
message (we're busy with the critters much of the time).
Thanks for any suggestions at all.
