To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Melatonin has two routes through which it can regrow fur. One is a route which can also
help stall or slow the tumor growth, but the second is entirely dermatological. The
abstract of the second (a fur and wool study from NZ) is in the FHL Archives.

The trick about Lupron Depot is that if vet hospital sees enough ferrets they can buy bulk
and do their own preparation if they have the right equipment and then the cost is kept
way down, but when it is bought in single doses with and shipped the price is very high.

Price also varies with the amount of the med in each dose and some difficult cases require
higher doses.

It is important to not wait for the return of symptoms before giving the next dose; stay on
schedule.

For a while a place in the midwest was selling Lupron Daily for monthly use instead of the
Lupron Depot. There are pharmacological reasons that can backfire. For information on
the potential problem of 24 hour Lupron possibly worsening the tumor growth see:

http://www.miamiferret.org/fhc/24hr_lupron.htm

There is a proposal before the USDA to okay the sale of deslorelin/Suprelorin in the U.S. If
okayed then this med can last longer and cost less than Lupron. There are a number of
studies using it for adrenal tumors.
