Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferretonin/Melatonin buys time until surgery
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I would like to add that administering melatonin, with or without Lupron, can help buy you some time so that you can save up for your ferret's surgery. With a 4mo implant and up to 3 before they have stopped working for me.. buys a year of saving money for surgery..

If you live in an area where vets charge $500 to $1000 for the surgery try to find someone who will help you get your ferret to their ferret who, ideally, will charge much less --- where do you live?

It is a shame when lives are lost for lack of the allmighty buck.. but the truth is doctors need to pay their bills too... some just live finer than others - some places will have grants for people who fall into a certain financial category.. you might ask about that... all they can do is tell you No! they don't have that kind of program. They can kill ya but they can't eat cha.. well they're not suppose to... also ask about making payments .. many vets will do that to help you get treatment for you baby while not compromising their fee schedule.

But, however you take care of his problem know that only surgery is curative... he will remain at risk of death and being a male.. you know with a prostate gland.. well it's not gunna be pretty.. so please do investigate all avenues for surgery.. JMO

Are the implants expensive? I strongly believe my ferret has AD and I cannot afford surgery.
