Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret leg amputation
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Has anyone had any experience with a leg amputation? I have an
albino male, unknown age, that has a large growth on his front right
leg. We had an x-ray taken in October and saw that he had an old
leg break and it was scar tissue. It was only about large marble
size. It is now the size of a tennis ball.
He is a rescue (I'm part of a shelter/rescue) we've had for about 2
years.
He walks around a lot and doesn't seem to be in pain. But, it is so
large it gets in the way. My vet hasn't done a ferret amputation,
but he has done dogs and cats and I know he could do a good job.
His main concern was the blood supply to the growth and bleeding
during surgery.
Do ferrets have the same good fortune as dogs, when it comes to
having only 3 legs?
Thanks,
Liz
