Subject: [ferrethealth] Mouth abcess draining through eye
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I received a wee old girl with what appeared to be a terrible eye
infection. When I took her in to be checked, we realized she had an
abcess due to very poor dental health and instead of draining into her
mouth, it went up & out through her lower eyelid. One tooth was
removed and she was put on 10 days of Clavamox. She resumed normal
eating patterns and the mouth looked like it healed quickly.
About 8 days after meds were completed, she started getting a very
swollen cheek - I made the assumption that the infection had returned
and put warm compressed on it several times that day. Sure enough - it
started draining up through the eye again.
Is Clavamox maybe not the best antibiotic for this situation? Or
possibly it's OK but we need a longer course?
Thanks,
