Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Mice? HUMANE trapping
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have personally been through this battle a few times with mice in
the past. In the early winter they come in to get out of the cold
here, I tried numerous non toxic things with little result. Then I
went and got some of the previously mentioned live traps at Walmart
and those did the trick. I caught 13 in 3 days that way. It depends
on which type of mice are coming in,here they turned out to be small
jumping mice and I ended up having to secure the traps down with duct
tape so they couldnt jump till they toppled them, then the catching
went well. I would drive them out to a cornfield in the morning and
let them go. You shouldnt need a big elaborate trap, the small
plastic ones worked very well with a little cracker and peanut butter
for bait.
I would have thought the smell of the ferrets would be a deterrent,
most ferrets would make rapid snacks of any mice caught out of safety.
