Subject: [ferrethealth] Heart problems/cardiomyopathy worries...
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello everyone,
as it seems the story always is: when the kids are finally
recovering from a long period of illness, something else starts to
worry us. I suppose that's what happens with a cageful of "seniors".

Anyway, this time Miss Summer is coughing and choking. It happens
randomly; whether she's sleeping or playing or exploring,
occasionally she'll just start up a fit of coughing. This has been
going on for about 2 weeks now, with various intensity. I originally
attributed this to a bug going 'round the business, because there
was a lot of coughing, sneezing, and runny noses (which has gotten
better, for the most part). I figured that since they are on
amoxicillin (because of the digestive problems) that a respiratory
infection will clear also, but I'm worried about the possibility of
cardiomyopathy with congestive heart failure after reading an
article on it. She's pretty active for a 7 year-old; eats well,
plays well. Sometimes she will "speed bump" or follow me around
until I carry her.

They have 6 more days on antibiotics. Should I wait until they're
done on their amoxicillin to see if her cough clears, or take her in
right away for an x-ray? What's the best way to treat
cardiomyopathy, and where can I find more information?

Thank you,
~Emily and the five feez
