The yellow is possibly due the metabolisation of her body fat
due to the anorexia, a normal occurence in ferrets who are
not eating.
Much was not quoted in this reply, due to space issues, but this is in
reference to the little jill with a family history of liver cancer, an ALT of >1000,
yellow plasma, and no bilirubin on the blood panel.
I don't feel that this can be attributed to anorexia, at least not without
further investigation of the liver such as an ultrasound, and possibly a liver
biopsy (which is actually not that big a deal in my experience, as long as
adequate pain control is used). I have not seen anorexia in ferrets produce ALT's
of quite that elevation, although it certainly can increase the value, and
the yellow plasma is a worrying indication that the bilirubin is likely
elevated. I'd recommend that the bilirubin be run, certainly, and yes, would be
looking for liver disease in this ferret.
