Hi Eleanor,
Normal ferrets can sleep 22 out of 24 hours but not
continuous. The ferret has the basic nocturnal attitude to the good
life, if it is fed adequately, to sleeping all day as seen
in nocturnal wild Mustelidae. This has been changed in the
domestic ferret by having it as a dog or cat and keeping
it active during daylight hours.
It might be better to treat the ferret as a nocturnal,
keeping it quiet and in the dark during daylight hours and playing with
it evening and morning. It will happily go back to sleep
after once conditioned to the routine. This may well keep Adrenal
Gland Disease at bay.
Further, feeding your ferret a once or twice daily a
fatty meat diet, bearing in mind they should get high protein,
high fat, low carbohydrate and low fibre diet, may keep
Insulinoma away and the ferret can play!
That's what i do with my critters.
John
