Subject: [ferrethealth] Sick baby
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My ferret, Puck, recently became very ill. I have had him to 2 vets
and one of them being some what of a specialtist. He has been very
weak and wasn't eating or drinking and was very dehydrated until I
discovered an artical about caring for a sick ferret. Since then I
have been succesful at getting him to eat the chicken gerber baby food
and syringes of a pidialyte and water mixure. But now that he is
becomming more wide eye'd and bushy tailed (pardon the pun) I still
see that he isn't using his hind legs. He drags himself along the
floor usually a few little steps b4 tiring out. The vet took xrays and
came to the conclusion that there were no tumors or any blockages. But
I am baffled as to y he isnt using hid rear. He potties on himself and
his legs r sort of stiff. If anyone can shed any like on this PLEASE
help or even tips on how to strech his legs so they won't get too
tight.

[Moderator's Notes: More information, please.

Beyond these general symptoms what other symptoms are present?

What age is the ferret?

Are you punning with the "bushy tail" because of fur loss?

Syringe feeding note: Vets usually ask us to remind list members
and post readers to have vets or their techs teach the safe ways
to do syringe feeding, since if it is done wrong aspiration
pneumonia can occur from breathing in the food or fluidsand that
is a potentially fatal infection.]
