Polecats DO stash food, though, so I am not sure that feedings which are that infrequent
really do echo the norm for ferrets' heritage, since natural stashing is all about putting away
food to eat later.
Certainly, their ancestors are burrow dwellers who have mostly dawn and dusk (crepuscular)
activity.
