My Suki (8 months) had surgery on 8th. Jan. She was spayed
and had kidney and liver biopsies.

**My first question is going to be why did she have biopsies? Did something
look abnormal? Was bloodwork elevated? The reason I ask is that it is very
unusual to have done biopsies on an eight month old ferret in for a spay, and
if there was something going on, that could explain her lethargy.**

Was I right to let her out so soon with such an incision? It
seems to me that her mental state improved so dramatically
that the risk was worth taking.

**I am very reluctant to allow activity that soon after a surgery. In my
experience, the ferrets that are very active in the first week to ten days after
an abdominal surgery tend to be the ones that will develop adhesions. Other
vets may have had different experiences with that, certainly.

I prefer to allow short visits from cagemates to allowing them to run around
at all. Also, pain medication after any surgery is a must.**
