See archive YPG115, YPG102,YPG103 and previous posts.
The ferret has had a long history of soft stools since I obtained
her at 9 wks old.
At different times fecal samples(twice) and blood work (3
times) have shown campylobacter(suspect diagnosis at first
sample only), elevated liver values subsequently falling to
almost normal and normal BUN and creatinine subsequentl
rising to above normal, marginal high albumin, low bilirubin, all
other values normal.
Ultrasound showed no problems except for marginal
splenomegaly, physical examination shows no problems and no
other clinical signs.
After treatment for suspected helicobacter (clarithromycin
only,no carafate). there was a considerable improvement, no
longer stools settling into mousse consistency, but still wetter
than normal poop and always large volumes.
As a spay was to be done before her first season it was
decided to do the biopsies at the same time to avoid two
procedures.
Suki has always eaten like a champion and gained weight
consistently always very, very active and learnt the resident
ferret beat the human tricks in 48 hrs.
If the original problem was helicobacter then I hope to see
improvemnt over the next few months, I just hope that is all it
was.
