Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret w/digestion issues - update

Precious is hanging on but we still don't have an exact answer. She
has been back to the vet and had xrays and blood work done. She does
have a heart murmur so however this ends up, she can't have surgery. The
xray only showed a tummy full of air/gas. Her heart in not enlarged,
there are no blockages and nothing unusual. Her protein levels are very
low but her liver values are about normal. She does have a raised white
blood cell count so she is now taking an antibiotic. Her bowel movements
were getting closer to normal but started to smell bad again on Sunday.
She started to get very weak on Sunday and stopped eating yesterday. I
have been force feeding A/D since last night. She did actually eat a few
bites of kibble late this afternoon and has been drinking all along. The
gurgling in her system has almost stopped but that was happening after
she had eaten. I spoke w/the vet again today and we are going to try a
low dose of pred with her now.
I will post again in a day or so to let you know how it turns out.
