Subject: [ferrethealth] Scoop on the poop.
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
My four ferrets had diarrhea. They took chloramphenicol for 1 week
with no improvement. Another 2 weeks on amoxicillin looked promising,
and now a week with BeneBac.
Two with dark stools (probable ulcers) now are taking .6ccs of Pepto
an hour before food and other meds in the morning, then .35ccs
metronidazole an hour after the amoxicillin, twice daily. The poops
started looking better, but today they had a bright RED-ORANGE hue to
them and were slimy. I thought typically the more blood is in the
stool, the darker it became, so what's causing them to be so bright?
Should I worry?
Also, should I be giving the Pepto twice a day? Our vet didn't say.
Thank you for any help
