Subject: [ferrethealth] white poop
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I ask about this every once in a while--I don't know whether I've asked here yet. Buddy
often has loose white poop. When I ask shelter moms they either say they haven't seemn it
or they say "oh, like mucus." Nope. Not like mucus. White. Sometimes it looks like runny
poop that has been mixed with very thick white paint. Sometimes, off-white curds in runny
poop. Sometimes, like today, very very white, thick, and unformed. I took pictures, which
I'll try to put in the photo section or people can email me.

I have asked a few vets. Every so often, when I get the poo tested, the vet looks for
parasites (only--but I don't know what else to look for and evidentally neither do any of
the vets I've seen) and tells me the test is negative. He's an old guy, and seems to be
slowing down a lot lately though it's nothing I can put my finger on except slightly stiffer,
wobblier than usual back legs. He's had multiple false diagnoses for different things over
the years. A few months ago he went in for adrenal surgery and there was nothing wrong
there, but the vet took out his spleen. two seperate lymph node aspirates looked good but
the vet still thought there might be lymphoma in the background. At that point he was
weened off the very high dose of pred he'd been on because of a false diagnosis of
insulinoma (because of the wobbliness and a one-time borderline glucose count), but he's
still on a tiny bit in case of lymphoma. he hasn't had a solid turd in forever and I've tried
everything for that. But since he hated diarrhea treatments, still seemed happy otherwise,
and nothing helped anyway, I finally decided to stop worrying about loose-to-liquid poo.

The white poo still worries me though, and it's getting whiter and more frequent. And I
swaer I remember mention of white poo on one of the boards, in a long post about
something very nasty but treatable. I'm still hoping somebody remembers that or knows
what I'm talking about.

Thanks,
Clover
