Subject: [ferrethealth] Question regarding medications

Hello All,
My question is about medications I've received for ferrets who have
passed on, but I've still got the medications. I'd like to know if
they are still good, or if they need to be thrown out.
The medications I have are:
Miconosol lotion (ears) - filled 11/10/01, says expires 12/01/02
Baytril tablets - filled 10/9/02; says expires 12/1/02
Cimetidine 300mg/5ml - filled 12/16/02; says expires 12/16/03
Pediapred 6.7mg/5ml - filled 2/14/06; no expiration date given
Metacam (pain med) 1.5mg/ml - filled 3/13/06; no expiration date given
Now I know some medications lose their effectiveness, and some can
even become toxic, but I've also heard that with some medications,
expiration dates aren't always accurate (it seems most just go with
the one year timeline).
