Subject: [ferrethealth] Fasting before blood sugar test??
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi everyone,

I posted recently about a friend who has two ferrets, one who was
having screaming seizures...and other insulinoma symptoms.

With help.. she did get Shadow, the one with seizures in to the vet,
but she had to take the other one, Taz, as well because he was showing
signs of stress... losing weight, not eating, and one (don't know
which) has black, tarry poo (possibly ulcer).

The vet said Shadow & Taz had to be kept overnight, but that they
would have to FAST to get a blood glucose. I am no vet, nor a ferret
expert of any kind, but this really worries me.. as well as the
fuzzies' mom.

They have both lost weight... one weighing 1.1 lbs (the one with
seizures), and the other lost down to 1.4 lbs.

Being alone at the vets' office overnight, especially with a ferret
who's having seizures... how would anyone help Shadow if he seizes?

Sorry this is so long, but I'm worried, Shadow and Taz's mom is very
worried... and I'm waiting to hear back.

Could someone tell me if this is the usual protocol for ferrets with
possible, un-checked insulinoma?

Thank you.
