To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
The only time ours have been fasted were these:
1. possible borderline cases
2. decades ago before the risk of fasting with insulinoma was known
She should insist on testing UNfasted. If the vet finds borderline blood glucose then
fasting can be done later, but since one has had strong insulinoma symptoms it could be
dangerous to fast that one.
Too many people tend to not realize that they can calmly discuss such things with
veterinarians (and with human health care professionals) and often come to a cooperative
plan of action.
In this case it sounds like the vet just needs to be brought up to date. Remember that vets
follow health considerations for many species. Your friend can present the vet with
references and resources to help. She or he should just make sure that it is done in the
way of people who work together. The vet may well enjoy resources like

a few paragraphs down
which your friend can highlight.
There are several things on pages 2 and 3 which your friend may want to highlight.
