Subject: [ferrethealth] insulinoma and ulcers/ Really need some info from a vet
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Hello.
Recently I lost a ferret from insulinoma. I took him into the vet as
an emergency because of ulcers. He had been treated for insulinoma
for months and it was under control. He stayed the night at the vet
and they treated him for his ulcers, but wasn't fully treated for
his blood sugar. They put sugar in his IV but it wasn't enough.
After a few hours and the ulcer meds working his blood sugar
crashed. The vet didn't treat it. He ended up passing away.
I know for a fact that ferret owners have treated both problems
together by giving the ulcer meds and then giving the blood sugar
meds after a short wait. I have been trying to find written
information about treating both problems, but can't find anything.
I would really appreciate some information from vets that I could
pass on to mine. Also, if anyone knows of any information out there
about treating both together please let me know.
I am hoping that by providing my vet with some information that the
next time a ferret comes into the office with these problems that
maybe the outcome could be a better one.
Thanks,
Erin
