Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Female kit - Tilted head since birth (common through litter)
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Thank you for the quick reply.

Their limbs are developing well, and otherwise seem all normal. The
condition has been there since birth, so it is difficult to tell
whether it is skeletal or neurological without an x-ray. (I think I
shall organize that soon).

Eboni uses her limbs well, and strongly. She uses her hands to grab
my fingers, to climb the sides of the cage etc, and so any skeletal
problem I think would be since birth, not due to calcium deficiency.

Here in Ausralia, kibble is available for specifically for ferrets
(Eagle Pack). Previously I had used this as the major diet for my
ferrets, and still do to an extent though I ensure a healthy variety
of meats.

It was suggested to me by a prominent Dr that 'commercial' food may
not be as good as it seems.

I will integrate softened kibble back into the diets of the little
ones in conjunction with the raw meet and see how they develop.

I do know that the breeders are VERY experienced, and would not expect
any problem on their part. And as have mentioned, the problems have
existed since birth.

I think the course of action I shall take will be to example skeletal
structure, and then consider neurological issues as need be.

If this is the case, do you know if much can be done?

Eboni certainly can get her head straight, and turn it to the opposing
side. I am considering 'exercising' her daily, by having her turn her
head in the direction opposing the tilt in order to both strengthen
and get her more 'used' to such actions. Whether this would work, I
honestly do not know.

Thank you again. If you have any further thoughts, I would certainly
like to hear them.

Regards,
Brett
