Subject: [ferrethealth] question about storing lupron, balding sides
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I've recently been told that mixed (not dry) lupron is OK for several months refrigerated.
This person says that that's how lupron is stored for humans. This goes against everything
I've read, but I'm not always up on this latest developments. Is it true? I been offered a few
doses that have been stored in the firdge, not frozen, but am afraid to use it.

Also, Butter's sides (but not his tail or tops of feet) have become almost completely bald in
just two weeks. I've never seen it go so fast, or just in that place. And now the saddle,
scruff, and cap are starting to thin. I know that the ferrets don't read the medical texts and
that balding is almost always adrenal, but every time I've seen balding like this, it's been
lymphoma. I gave him an implant and a shot of properly stored lupron. I'm also taking him
to my ferret vet, and I do realize that whatever tumor is involved is very aggressive so time
is of the essence. But I don't have 100% confidence in this guy. If anyone here can offer
their thoughts based on experience, I would be grateful.

Butter is just over five. Just two months ago he saw my ferret vet (skin tab), who assured
me he wasn't over 2 and pronounced him perfectly healthy. He has gone through a couple
of depressions and had to be hand fed and given low doses of steroids to prevent wasting,
so I always have to keep an eye on him to make sure he's eating and getting out of bed.
He's not buff or very strong-spirited, but he's always been healthy otherwise.
