Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: question about storing lupron, balding sides
Well, I checked with the university vet clinic this woman gets her lupron from. The vet
there says that on the advice of his pharmacist, he's just been refrigerating lupron for
several years with no ill effects. Several years puts this technique well into the time that I
know there was controversy over whether a regular freezer would be adequate, so I don't
know what to make of that. He did say he'd never had the stuff actually tested for potency,
but that as a protein, lupron should be pretty stable; he thought freezing would do the
stuff harm, cause it to coagulate. The theory he gave me, if I'm understanding it correctly,
was that the company that manufactures lupron just said it needed to be frozen in order
to maximize their profits by making it harder for people to buy smaller-than-human-
sized doses.
