Subject: [ferrethealth] Tongue flicking in older ferret
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Jersey has been with me 2 years and was placed at 6 or 7 when he came
to me. He has been diagnosed with multiple problems, including IBD,
insulinoma and adrenal disease. He was examined in November and there
were several masses felt in his abdomen.

Currently Jersey is on 0.4 mg Pred bid and eats Turkey-Venison-Lamb
Totally Ferret kibble with a soup of Carnivore Care and a/d with
vitamins several times a day.

Last Friday he began flicking his tongue in and out while awake. It
did not seem to last more than one day, so I decided not to take him
to the vet at that time. Tonight he began doing it again, followed by
pawing at his mouth and attempting to vomit. He appeared to
regurgitate something and swallowed it again. I was about to give him
his pred when this happened so I did so and also gave him some
Ferretvite and a bit of Karo. He is sleeping now and I plan to call
the vet tomorrow to see if she can see him.

Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing the tongue flicking? I
have not seen this behavior in a ferret before. Thanks.

Renee
