Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: 2 new ferrets I got for Christmas
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I wrote to this group right after I got 2 ferrets three weeks ago. I
had difficulty with them not eating. They had been raised in a cage
and fed cat food from the dollar store. They have been doing fine
after the first few day.
Well, a few days ago one of my little guys stopped eating and sleeping
almost non-stop; lethargic. I took him to the vet today and he checked
out fine. We were going to wait another day or two and if he was still
not eating, I would take him back for blood tests.

Dr. X could find nothing wrong; no tumors, no masses, not even an
infection. This little guy hit the floor running like nothing had been
wrong! Just like taking your child to the doctor and they suddenly are
"OK." Yea....
Anyway, my major concern was the most serious, of course, but I was
also concerned about dehydration. He was not, so, he must have been
drinking water during the night while I was sleeping. I tried a couple
of foods to get something in him. Tonight I reverted back to the
Gerbers #2 chicken food laced with FerretVite, warmed, of
course....and he ate that.
THEN...I had an idea. See, I keep my dogs food out at all times and
all the ferrets eat it, also, besides the ferret food in their cage
(which they are only in at nighttime). My little sickie went right
back to bed after eating about 3 tsp of the baby food. I offered water
which he turned down. Then..... I took a small handful of the dogs
food and laid in his bed. He dove right into it and ate like a pig! Go
figure. Timing is right when I put down only ferret food for them in
my room, and he stopped eating. He doesn't like the dag gum ferret food!

Thank you all!!!!

Linda
