Subject: [ferrethealth] White, adrenal and blood tinged urine
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Yesterday I noticed blood tinged pee that didn't smell like pee in
the cage. So I went and picked everyone up as they were playing.

I picked up White, an adrenal ferret, and he gushed the slightly-
blood tinged pee all over my leg and the floor.

Of course that was last night. Today he has a fever, and is straining
to urinate, but he peed normal color urine (and smelly, ferret urine)
and some loose diarrhea this morning.

I have an appointment for Monday with Dr. X at Y. I
know that he needs an adrenalectomy, and that during the surgery they
should get rid of as much abnormal prostate tissue as possible - but
does anyone know what to give after surgery for medically treating
the prostate disease?

I have been thinking of going with Flutamide. Does anyone have info
on this or use it? I just lost a ferret, Mr. Peepers, to an abscess
of the prostate and he was on Lupron, so I think I want to go with
something else.

Flutamide is said to block the prostate cells' receptors from
accepting or recognizing the hormones that antagonize it....so....I
think it should work?
