Some things to check that can cause PERSISTENT tongue flicking:
nausea (ulcers, insulinoma needing better control, furball in
stomach, GI infection, etc) or mouth sores (check kidneys among
other things, ditto teeth and gums) when a ferret does that tongue
flicking.

BTW, one thing that happens with insulinoma which is not being
managed as closely as needed is that the blood does not deliver
enough sugar to the brain so the brain can not function properly.
