On the recommendation of my allergist and my Father-in-Law's
pulmonologist we use Environcaire (Enviracaire? My eyes are bad
and I can't bend down to see spelling clearly right now since I had
surgery yesterdayso search on both.) with hepa filter. Some of the
most recent of those have cleanable filters. They are sold widely.
Like the original
poster we have to protect ourselves and the ferrets from cigarette
smoke of a neighbor which comes though bathroom and kitchen vents
and the holes for pipes, also one of our ferret appears to have a
severe seasonal pollen allergy with a bad enough dermal response
that he even gets secondary skin infections. He's a very allergic
little soul.
When a person is seeing a professional whio helps them breathe like an
allergist or a lung specialist a lot of info can be found from them on which
pieces of equipment should be avoided and which ones work best.
I think that Consumer Reports (not Consumer Guide) also did
independent studies that should be available
in libraries (Thank goodness for libraries -- real treasures!)
