Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Hair loss on tail
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I'd suggest bringing him to the vet. Both of my ferrets were
diagnosed with adrenal tumors in the last month, and they showed very
different symptoms. My 2 year old female lost fur on her tail, but
was otherwise fine just as you describe - very spunky, getting into
trouble as usual, etc etc. Despite being seemingly okay besides the
fur loss, the vet said her adrenal tumor was rather large. We had it
removed in early December, and she is doing great. My 2.5 year old
male didn't really lose any fur, it just seemed as if he had a summer
coat in winter. He was much sleepier than usual though, so we
brought him to the vet, and sure enough, he has an adrenal tumor as
well. He had surgery just last week and is doing very well as well.

I guess my point is that at least in my experience, different ferrets
show different symptoms, so it's best to have it checked out.
Besides that, if it's adrenal and it's caught and removed early, I
think they'd do better with the surgery sooner while they're still
otherwise healthy.

Best of luck!

Jess and the now extra spunky furkids, Logan and Rogue
