Dr. Ruth and FHL mmbers,

I did call the vet's office and ask to speak with the vet -
receptionist relayed the query and came back with "what the vet
said". This is a COMMON problem when calling a vet's office -
receptionists field client's questions.

As you are a vet, if Fozzy had been presented to you with a BG of
36.9, would you have started him on such a low dosage of pred? All
the forum exchanges I've done so far with folks having more
experience than myself and with insulinomic ferrets say that a dosage
of 0.25 at 5mg/5ml is a VERY low dose.

When I called the vet's office to inquire about raising Fozzy's
dosage the first time, again the receptionist fielded the question
and came back with "the vet said it was o.k."

I understand a vet has in house patients and can't run to the phone
to talk personally with every client. AS a client on the phone, I am
at the mercy of the receptionist. I have no idea if the receptionist
ACTUALLY spoke to the vet or just put me on hold momentarily and
answered my question herself.

While many folks on the forums mentioned they'd increase immediately
to 0.5 then back off, I at least have opted to increase the dosage
slowly - without repeated inquiries to the vet (via receptionist).

Fozzy will get a third dose at 0.5 tomorrow morning and with every
incremental increase he has shown noticeable improvement. I can't
help but think if the vet had prescribed the 0.5 dosage from the get
go - Fozzy would've had releif several days ago.

I am calling the vet's in the morning to see if they can fit Fozzy in
for a follow up BG test, as well as a new Rx for Pred. am hoping that
he can give me a Rx and I can get this at Walmart on their 4.00 plan.

Thanks, Kim
