I am so sorry for your loss.
I can't tell you what the standard practice is everywhere but my vet
always does a full blood panel 4 hours before every surgery. Linguini
underwent 3 surgical procedures within a 6 month period and each time
she had blood work done before each. Cannoli had surgery in November
and had blood work done 4 hours before his surgery.
