Subject: [ferrethealth] Liver Problems Need Help Please
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

A friend in our group has a chocolate ferret that has turned very
yellow in its undercoat, skin and pads of the feet. He has been
taking is boy Ty to the vet for the last week trying to get him
better, and the vet says liver problems -- seems logically to me
giving his color. Ty has lost a lot of weight, but is definitely not
giving up the fight. He is a Marshall Farm boy (shelter adopted)
about 2 or 3 with no past medical problems. The owner had been sick
with the flu for two weeks, but was careful to wash hands, before
handling food/water and general cleaning for them.
-------------
Here are the meds that he is currently on:
* - Famotidine 10MG - once a day - PM
* - Barium - 1 ml - 2 x a day
* - Lactulose - .25ml - 2 x a day
* - Mephyton 5 mg tablet - 1/2 tablet once a day
* - Amoxicillin - .42ml - 2 x a day
* - Baxtril 12mg/ml - .5ml - 1 x a day

Here is what he said regarding the test results --- I cut and pasted
from his email so I don't miss anything.
Test - Value - ???
ALP - 1251 - U/L
ALT - 1179 - U/L
GGT - 355 - U/L
BA-Bial Acids >140* UMO/L
TBIL - total bilirubin - 11.6 - MG/DL
- Ty's original results for this test were 26.9
ALB - Albumin - 2.0 - G/DL
- Dr. indicated that the best results for this test were between 3
and 4. She indicated that she was not too concerned with this value
for now
BUN - Blood Urea Nitrate -26 MG/DL
CHOL - Cholesterol - 175 - MG/DL

I do not know if this will be of any help without knowing exactly
what each test is, but the results from the Doctor were encouraging,
but he is not out of the woods completely.
I may be able to get the results from the blood test from the Lab.
----------
His vet knows we are asking for input from the knowledgeable people
on the FHL. Any ideas are welcome. I've been around ferret for over
7 years now, and I've never seen a ferret this color before. The
owner is very caring and concerned. Any help or insight would be
greatly appreciated.
