Subject: [ferrethealth] Liver Problems Need Help Please
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

I know ferrets can get cholangitis, infection/inflammation along the biliary ducts. However, they can get bile duct cancer and liver cancers ( either direct or from spread of cancer from adrenal or lymphoma. ) and I would worry about those possibilities with the numbers. From what I recall, liver enzymes themselves can be up in a ferret that is not eating well, and are alone not a sign of liver problems but once you see high bilirubin numbers it is liver disease without a doubt. Only the cause is not known in this ferrets case.

An ultrasound may help at least see if any cysts/growths/tumors in the area of the liver and gall bladder.?? exploratory surgery with biopsy if indicated.

The albumin is low, is the ferret edematous, swollen feet, etc?
Although other things can cause albumin to be low, it is also a sign of a poorly functioning liver.
How are the other tests, Creatinine ( indicated kidney function) and , the blood count (CBC)?

I hopeTy feels better soon.

A quick search on the FHL had many prior posts about liver diseaes in ferrets, a search may be helpful to your friend.
I did find this one that seemed to fit :

His vet knows we are asking for input from the knowledgeable people
on the FHL. Any ideas are welcome. I've been around ferret for over
7 years now, and I've never seen a ferret this color before. The
owner is very caring and concerned. Any help or insight would be
greatly appreciated.
