Subject: [ferrethealth] Heart Disease....
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi Everyone,
June of this year my 5 yr. old female Lucy was diagnosed with 3rd
degree heart disease. My Vet (the best!!!) started her on .03 Isuprel 4-5 times
daily, and .01 baby asprine 1x daily. Both oral. Obviously the idea is to
keep her heart rate at least 80-100 beats per minute. In the past few weeks she
has started to pass out after she has been up for awhile in the morning, even
after getting her first dose of Isuprel orally. Since this has started, I
always have a needle syringe ready with her med's. and give her a shot. This
slowly brings her heart rate up and she starts to liven up! Does anyone else
have any suggestions or info on how they are treating their ferrets?? Any info
will really help! Thank-You,

Ray

[Moderator's Note: Do you mean third level A/V Heart Node Block?
There are many forms of heart disease. There are treatment options
for both Node Block and cardiomyopathy in the Files section
http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/ferrethealth/files/
in Disease-specific files
but they are a few years old for more recent info see the FHL Archives:
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/
Treatment will depend not only on the degree of the heart disease but
also on which heart disease it is.

Isoproterenol is related to epinephrine but acts almost exclusively on
beta receptors. ]
