Subject: [ferrethealth] Highs & Lows of Insulinoma
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Well its been just9 days from Fozzy's first vet visit, all bedraggled,
limp, disoriented, unstable and with what I was told by vet was a BG
level of 36.9.

Today Fozzy had a follow up visit. Besides discovering his BG wasn't
actually 36.9 but instead was 39.6 ( hey, three points is three points -
right?)according to the vet's notes; today his BG was SUPER high at 465!

Talked with vet about dosage and he said that while 0.50 of pred 2x day
wasn't excessive - he wannts to see if Fozzy does as well at a lower
dose so tonight he is back down to 0.45 for the next two to three days,
then down to 0.40 if he is o.k. on that.

Then back for another BG test. VEt was happy to see Fozzy so much more
responsive, and regaining his strength. Fozzy showed his displeasure at
being tested again by peeing on the vet tech!

I'd also taken Faylene to get her tested too- mostly because she is 6
years old also and sleeps almost as much as Fozzy does even though when
she is awake she is much more active and is willing to interact and
play with me. However she wiggled too much and fought too hard for them
to get a blood sample. Vet suggested anesthetizing her to get a sample
without stressing her so badly.

He said that stress will increase their blood glucose. Fozzy had just
eaten before leaving the house, and I brought food with me which he had
a few bites JUST before being tested.

but to go from 39.6 to 465 is a HUGE jump, so obviously things aren't
stabilized yet.

Regards, Kim
