To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Years ago we had a ferret's toe amputated to remove a tumor looking like that because when
it is tumor rather than a cyst or blister there are several possibilities so it was safest to do
that. She had a benign mast cell tumor but at least one other possibility would haver been
potentially dangerous with a lesser approach.

Ferrets cope well with losing a toe but it is important to leave extra soft tissue because over
time the tissue can retract at an amputation so the extra tissue pad prevents later having any
exposed bone and a second surgery.
