Regarding the question:

If the area in question is raised and bumpy or irregular in texture it may
be a mast cell or other skin anomaly.

If the area is smooth and dark it "\*ma* be a basal cell carcinoma. We had
a ferret a few years back who developed one of these in the rump area. It
was removed adn did not regrow. He lived several more years before failing
to liver cancer.

Hope this helps.

In most cases a biop[sy really needs to be done so that you have an
educated idea as to what the next mode of treatment should be if is proves
to be a more aggressive form of skin lesion.
