Subject: [ferrethealth] Adrenal again. Need input
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Here is the story:

My experience in keeping and breeding ferrets is 6 years. During
these years I have been reading about adrenal a lot, but in my
country i.e. Lithuania adrenal disease was never ever diagnosed so
far nor the adrenal operation was ever performed.

I can be 99% sure about that since the country is very small and we
have a website where the owners of about 1000 ferrets communicate
very closely.

With a fear I was waiting for the first one to show up. So now we
probably have an adrenal issue, however=85 The diagnosis is mostly made
by ferret owners (not vets) considering the symptoms: hair loss on
the whole body and problematic urination (ferret is castrated male).

There is a possibility to try an operation (the ferret is 3 years old
and quite good candidate for surgery) and vets are ready to try it
even if they never did it, but since it would be the first operation
like this we think it would be very good to be surer, that diagnosis
is right.

Ultrasound =96 impossible, good enough equipment is not available as
well as the professional to read it. Blood test =96 impossible as well
(only few needed parameters could be done and only in human labs).

So my question is:

Could Lucrin Depot 3.75mg that is available in Lithuania for human
consumption be used for example for a month or longer to confirm the
diagnosis and than if so to go for a surgery?

If you wouldn't say that it is an absolutely crazy idea and this
could be done than how to apply the human medicine for a ferret?
Shall the dose remain the same? It comes into a form like it is here:
http://www.abbott.co.in/Lucrin.htm

We also have dog Suprelorin implants available, however I do not
think it is a good option for the moment.

If that will be of any assistance, some blood results of the same
ferret that were collected two moths ago:

RBC 5,3, WBC 14800, Hemoglobin 162, ENG 13, band neutrophils 11,
segmented neutrophils 46, eosinophils 3, monocytes 2, lymphocytes 41

Thanks for the input.
